Kisses

Here's a little video of Aubree giving kisses. You'll also catch an "uh-oh" at the end. It's not one of her best, but it's what we got on video!

Kids and their "toys"

Inspired by my sister's posting, I've got a few good pictures of Aubree playing with things that were not intended for her to play with!

Here she is playing with the TV. She especially likes to play with the glass doors just below the TV. We would obviously prefer it if she didn't!

Here we see Aubree with Misha's bone. She will go out of her way to crawl after it and then put it in her mouth...yuck! Misha seems to enjoy letting her play with it. Every time I take it away from Aubree and throw it for the dog, she'll bring it back and lay it down right beside Aubree. Then we get to go through it all over again!

No, this is not a drum Aubree is pounding on...it's Misha's food bowl. She hasn't tried to put it in her mouth yet or anything. She'll pick it up, fling it around for a bit, then just bang on it.

I have to admit, it was pretty cute when she was pounding on the bowl. She looked like she was having a great time!

Being Mommy

Last night a little sleepy girl was looking up at me contently with her big brown eyes. She was relaxed and absently playing with my hands, and I could tell that we were both in the same zone, listening to some good music and enjoying each other. In my spirit I felt, "Wow, this is maybe one of the best moments of my life."

Then I thought back to an hour before. I was dealing with the aftermath of her decision to "drop the kids off at the pool" while taking her bath, she was wailing at the top of her lungs because I had left her in her crib, and I was dealing with her little "incident." I was frazzled and thinking, "Wow, this is maybe one of the most frustrating moments of my life." The rollercoaster of emotions I could encounter within the period of a couple short hours was incredible.

I guess this is a kind a microcosmic snapshot of a day in the life of Mommy, the day-to-day frustrations erased by a little eye contact and the overwhelming love of mother for child. It makes me look at the big picture and think I finally get the pure, unconditional love of God. I'm sure I can be every bit as frustrating to him, and I know I make a mess of things, but He still enjoys me and loves me with a depth that I cannot even fathom. It makes me want to fix some content brown eyes on Him knowing that He can love me even better than I love my little kiddo, which is pretty intense. It makes me want to find that moment either in a song or just in some quiet time to let him wrap me up in His arms and give me peace.

It's kind of amazing what you can learn being Mommy.

Aubree's Daddy-- He's pretty cute, too.

Chris, I knew you would love this! No paybacks, please.

I have skills now, folks!

In the last few weeks Aubree has gained some fun new abilities. My favorites are the hand clapping and dancing. Nothing is better than getting a round of applause when I go to pick her up or get her out of her crib. I also get a huge kick out of watching her sway and bop along with songs. This kid has serious rhythm. I love it!

She's also hit some big milestones. She's pulling herself up, cruising along the chairs and couches, doing a cool little ninja roll across the living room, and, yes, it's official, she's crawling. She's excited all the time. When she gets going, she can bounce her way across the room, and she has this cute little pant/giggle thing going for her that cracks us up! *Video to follow (I hope.)

She has started sticking her tongue out when prompted, and she has two teeth, and I think I felt one coming in on the top today. I know that teething is not a skill, but it's a milestone nevertheless. Her vocabulary consists of: "bah" for bottle, "mama" when she is upset, and a constant stream of "dadadada" and "deeder deeder deeder," which means her fist is in her mouth and she is shouting. Fun times!
